This section deals with the relationships between the police and minority groups.  After reading Chapter 4 respond to the following questions or statements:

· Briefly summarize the history of the police and their treatment of people of color. Specifically address disproportionate traffic stops, arrests, and use of force.

· Explain the issues with capturing and reporting accurate data on police shootings of minorities or others?  How does this contribute to the public controversy? 

· Identify and discuss three important policing reforms which might help to mitigate the issues of disparate or discriminatory treatment of minorities in the criminal justice system. 

· Discuss the historical issues related to the employment of minorities and women in policing. How does this contribute to the public’s perception of the disparities in the criminal justice system? Is the disparity in employment of minorities causally linked to the areas of disparate treatment of minority citizens?  If so, how?
